Job summary

State of Tennessee in Murfreesboro is seeking an entry-level probation and parole trainee under general supervision. The position involves learning to plan and implement probation and parole services, with initial close supervision as duties are learned.

Responsibilities include preparing offender records, monitoring compliance, interviewing probationers, conducting investigations, liaising with courts and agencies, and performing risk assessments.

Qualifications

• Education: Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor's degree.
• Substitution of Experience for Education: Full-time relevant professional experience, to include law enforcement experience, may be substituted for the bachelor's degree requirement on a year-for-year basis.
• Necessary Special Qualifications: Applicants must meet a series of requirements including weapon use, age, US citizenship, background checks, fingerprints, and completion of Tennessee Correction Academy training.

Responsibilities

• Prepares and maintains offenders' records and reports; prepares narrative reports of the investigation process.
• Monitors the offenders under their supervision to ensure compliance with release requirements.
• Interviews probationers and parolees regularly to evaluate progress and compliance with terms.
• Conducts pre-hearing and pre-release investigations and testifies in court and parole hearings as required.
• Acts as liaison with judges, court personnel, law enforcement and other agencies.
• Supervises probationers on community-based sentences and administers drug testing as needed.
