Job summary

Louisiana Department of Public Safety & Corrections – Corrections Services in Covington, LA seeks a Corrections Support Specialist to assist Probation and Parole Officers. Duties include intake coordination, document review, and offender case management to ensure accurate processing and compliance.

The role requires 3+ years in administrative services or 6 years in any field, or a bachelor's degree, with experience substitutions allowed.

Qualifications

• Three years of experience in administrative services; OR six years of full-time experience in any field; OR a bachelor's degree.
• Experience substitutions: every 30 semester hours earned counts as one year towards six years of experience; max substitution 120 semester hours (four years).

Responsibilities

• Process intake and onboarding of offenders entering probation or parole supervision, scheduling intake appointments and collecting forms.
• Review and extract information from legal documents (court minutes, plea agreements, sentencing orders, judgments, warrants) for entry into information systems.
• Identify discrepancies and initiate corrective action with courts, DA offices and law enforcement; perform criminal history research using databases and AFIS.
• Provide offenders with procedural guidance, complete intake documentation, prepare case files, purge closed files, and close cases per retention standards.
• Support P&P agents in pre-sentence, post-sentence and pre-parole investigations; obtain victim input on sentencing or parole decisions.
• Investigate warrant cases using federal/state/local databases and coroner records to locate absconders.
• Serve as primary public-facing representative of the District Office; verify reporting status and distribute forms to ensure compliance.
• Assist Corrections Supervisor and Probation & Parole Officers and Agents.
