Job summary

West Virginia Judiciary is seeking a Probation Officer in multiple WV locations. You will conduct investigations, prepare presentence reports, and make probation recommendations to the Judge, while supervising offenders.

The role may require evening, weekend, or holiday hours and includes working with treatment courts and offenders. A bachelor's degree in a related field and driving license are required, with strong writing and communication skills.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in criminal justice, counseling, social work, psychology or related field.
• Analytical and investigative skills are required.
• Excellent oral communication and strong writing ability are essential.
• Must have valid driver's license and reliable transportation.
• Ability to work evenings, weekends and holidays when needed.

Responsibilities

• Prepare pre-sentence reports, orders, forms and other documents as needed.
• Maintain individual files for probationers and data to monitor compliance.
• Attend and testify in court hearings.
• Monitor offenders sentenced to probation or supervised release.
• Conduct field supervision.
• Develop interagency linkages to address clients' needs (culture, age, gender, health, employment).
• Perform other duties as assigned.
