Job summary

County of Siskiyou is seeking an entry-level Probation Aide to support field and administrative probation activities. This trainee role provides on-the-job training under supervision, assisting in interviewing, reporting, and coordinating with courts and community agencies to help reduce recidivism.

Responsibilities include supervising a limited caseload, assisting with pre-sentence investigations, and supporting the Probation Department in courtroom and field settings; a valid California

Qualifications

• One to two years of experience working with juveniles and adults in Probation, law enforcement, Social Services, or similar field with substantial public contact.
• Alternatively, six months in a clerical/public service position with court or probation exposure plus college coursework from an accredited college/university.
• An Associate's Degree in a related field is highly desirable.

Responsibilities

• Assist in a wide variety of probation activities involving field and administrative work and prepare recommendations for the Superior Courts.
• Supervise a limited caseload of probationers and collect urine samples as required.
• Conduct pre-sentence investigations and prepare requisite reports.
• Interview offenders, victims, arresting officers, parents, relatives, school officials, and other persons regarding juvenile and adult offenders.
• Coordinate probation casework assignments with other County staff, community agencies, and other government agencies.
