Job summary

The Department of Psychology at the University of Oregon seeks to establish a pool of qualified candidates for Pro Tem Instructor positions. Depending on departmental needs, Pro Tem Instructors may teach undergraduate courses in introductory psychology, research methods, cognition, thinking, development, clinical psychology, or clinical practica (Oregon psychology licensure required).

Positions are limited duration appointments potentially renewable for up to three years, based on programmatic

Department Summary

The College of Arts and Sciences (CAS) is the intellectual hub ofthe University of Oregon, serving nearly two-thirds of allstudents. Home to more than 800 faculty across 50+ departments andprograms in the humanities, natural sciences, and social sciences,CAS is a dynamic and interdisciplinary academic community. Ourfaculty and advisors work closely with students to develop criticalthinking, analytical reasoning, and clear communication skills toaddress real-world challenges. CAS staff and managers are integralto this work, playing vital roles in supporting academic excellenceand advancing the mission of both the College and theUniversity.

Within the College of Arts and Sciences, Psychology is one of thelargest departments supporting significant instructional andresearch activities in a wide range of fields within thediscipline. Department faculty group themselves into four majorareas: Clinical, Cognitive/Systems Neuroscience, Developmental, andSocial-Personality. Our Clinical doctoral program has beencontinuously accredited by the American Psychological Associationsince 1958, is a member of the Academy of Psychological ClinicalScience and has been accredited by the Psychological ClinicalScience Accreditation System since 2013. Our department valuesinterdisciplinary collaboration and embraces the values of open andreproducible science.

The Department features a Diversity Science emphasis area, whichincludes faculty across the department's four major areas, andsignificant involvement with the Ballmer Institute for Children'sBehavioral Health. In addition, our faculty engage in productiveresearch collaborations with faculty in other UO departments aswell, including Anthropology, Architecture, Biology, Data Science,Economics, Education, Human Physiology, Philosophy, andPhysics.

Position Summary

The Department of Psychology at the University of Oregon seeks toestablish a pool of qualified candidates interested in Pro TemInstructor positions. Depending on departmental needs, Pro TemInstructors may teach undergraduate courses in areas such asintroductory psychology, research methods, cognition, thinking,developmental psychology, clinical psychology, or clinical practica(Oregon psychology licensure required).

Positions are limited duration appointments potentially renewablefor up to a total of three years, based on programmatic need,funding, and performance. Screening of applications will take placeas positions become available and continue until positions arefilled.

Minimum Requirements
  • Master's degree in Psychology or closely related field.
Professional Competencies
  • Ability to mentor and support students.
  • Ability to work effectively with faculty, staff, and studentsfrom a variety of diverse backgrounds.
  • Ability to contribute to institutional diversity, equity, andinclusion efforts.
Preferred Qualifications
  • University-level teaching experience.
  • Ph.D in Psychology or a closely related field.
  • Experience with different teaching strategies and learningstyles.
