Community Health Systems is seeking a Certified Surgical Technologist (PRN) for the Surgical Institute of Alabama in Birmingham, AL. The role prepares sterile fields, assists the surgeon, and ensures instruments are used correctly while maintaining infection prevention standards.

Qualified candidates have 0-2 years OR experience and either a Surgical Technology technical school credential or an Associate Degree in Surgical Technology. BCLS certification required; CST preferred.

Qualifications

• Technical School graduate of Surgical Technology or Practical Nursing program
• Associate Degree in Surgical Technology or Applied Sciences
• 0-2 years of operating room surgical technician experience

Responsibilities

• Prepares and maintains operating room for surgical cases with aseptic technique.
• Assists surgical team by passing instruments and supplies efficiently.
• Handles instrument sterilization, inspection, and assembly.
• Performs sponge, needle, and instrument counts with circulating nurse.
• Assists in patient positioning, draping, and transfer methods.
• Maintains physician preference cards and ensures availability of supplies.
• Cleans, reprocesses, and sterilizes instruments and equipment per protocols.
• Restocks supplies and prepares OR for subsequent cases.
• Maintains regular and reliable attendance.
• Complies with policies and standards.
