Responsibilities include room setup, instrument passing, sterilization, sponge/needle counts, patient positioning, and updating command sheets.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of surgical procedures, instrumentation, and aseptic techniques.
• Strong understanding of sterilization methods and infection prevention.
• Ability to anticipate the needs of the surgical team and respond quickly.
• Excellent communication and teamwork skills to collaborate with the perioperative team.

Responsibilities

• Prepares and maintains the operating room for surgical cases, ensuring equipment, instruments, and supplies are organized and ready.
• Assists the surgical team by passing instruments and supplies accurately and efficiently.
• Handles instruments per instructions for use, ensuring sterilization, inspection, and assembly.
• Performs sponge, needle, and instrument counts with the circulating nurse for patient safety.
• Assists in patient positioning, draping, and transfer methods during procedures.
• Maintains physician preference cards for accurate supplies.
• Cleans, reprocesses, and sterilizes instruments following protocols.
• Restocks supplies and returns equipment to storage to keep OR ready for next cases.
