Job summary

Cleveland Clinic Health System is seeking a PRN RN for Surgery at the Cole Eye Institute. The role covers pre-, intra-, and post-operative care for eye surgeries in a fast-paced, high-volume environment.

The nurse will rotate through circulating and scrub roles, participate in an OR training program of about six months, and work 10:00am–2:00pm as a PRN caregiver, delivering exceptional patient care in a collaborative team.

Qualifications

  • Graduate from an accredited school of professional nursing (Diploma, ADN or BSN)
  • Current state licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN)
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification
  • One year of RN experience or completion of perioperative residency
  • ACLS Certification if performing moderate/procedural sedation (within six months of hire)

As an RN in Surgery supporting ophthalmology services, you will play an integral role across the full continuum of care for eye surgeries and procedures. This includes rotating through pre-operative, intraoperative, and post-operative phases, with training in both circulating and scrubbing roles. The environment is high-volume and fast-paced, requiring strong clinical skills, adaptability, and the ability to work efficiently whilemaintainingexceptional patient care standards. The team is known for its collaborative, supportive culture, creating a positive and cohesive work environment.

This role offers the opportunity to work withcutting-edgetechnology used to perform advanced eye procedures not widely available elsewhere in the region. Daily responsibilities include preparing patients for surgery,assistingduring procedures, and providing post-operative care and education. Orientation includes a comprehensive OR training program of approximately six months, along with pre- and post-operative nursing competencies, tailored to individual experience and learning pace.

A caregiver in this position works PRN: 10:00am-2:00pm.

A caregiver who excels in this role will:

  • Provide nursing care in an operative setting to patients undergoing surgical or invasive procedures.

  • Perform scrub and circulating functions.

  • Prepare the OR, surgicalinstrumentsand equipment for use.

Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:

  • Graduate from an accredited school of professional nursing (Diploma,ADNor BSN program)

  • Current state licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN)

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross

  • One year of RN experienceor completion of Cleveland Clinic perioperative residency program

  • *If performing moderate/procedural sedation must have Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) Certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross(within six months of hire)

Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:

  • Bachelor’sof Science in Nursing (BSN)

  • Prior experience as a circulating nurse or in a perioperative setting

Physical Requirements:

  • Requires full range of body motion including handling and lifting patients, manual and finger dexterity and eye-hand coordination. Requires standing and walking for extensive periods of time.

  • Medium Work - Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.

  • Physical Demand requirements are in excess of those for Light Work.

  • Occasionally lifts and carries items weighing up to 25 pounds and ability to push, pull, and navigate supply carts weighing > than 75 pounds periodically.

Personal Protective Equipment:

  • Follows Standard Precautions using personal protective equipment as required for procedures.
