Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in pharmacy or PharmD required.
  • 0-3 years of experience in retail or ambulatory pharmacy preferred.

Job Details

The PRN Pharmacist interprets physicians' prescriptions, compounds, and dispenses medications within regulatory guidelines. Supervises the clinical activities of pharmacy technicians. Consults and counsels patients on medication use and potential drug interactions. This position is compliance-critical, with specific responsibilities for ensuring ongoing adherence to all regulatory and organizational standards.

Location: Rotating coverage at two locations:

  • Lorain County Health & Dentistry, 1205 Broadway, Lorain, OH 44052
  • Erie County Health Department, 20 Superior Street, Sandusky, Ohio 44870

Hours: Coverage for call-outs and scheduled PTO, Monday through Friday, 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM. Closed on weekends and holidays.

Responsibilities:
  1. Evaluate, prepare, and dispense medications according to standards and legal requirements.
  2. Perform medication reconciliation to ensure seamless patient care upon discharge.
  3. Provide excellent customer service and clinical care.
  4. Consult with patients regarding medications, including dosage, interactions, and special requirements.
  5. Review patient care plans for therapeutic appropriateness.
  6. Contribute to business goals, marketing, and promotional activities.
  7. Assist in fiscal management to optimize profits and control expenses.
  8. Manage pharmacy technicians, including hiring, training, and performance management.
  9. Monitor staff performance for compliance with policies and procedures.
  10. Maintain quality improvement, security, and record-keeping procedures.
  11. Handle prescription claims and follow-up on reimbursement issues.
  12. Manage pricing structures and make operational recommendations.
  13. Verify prescriptions and guide pharmacy staff.
  14. Respond to patient inquiries and resolve issues promptly.
  15. Provide organizational consultation on pharmacy matters.
  16. Oversee scheduling and reporting of pharmacy staff hours.
  17. Ensure patient profile updates for insurance and compliance.
  18. Participate in departmental meetings and training.
  19. Collaborate on quality, service, and clinical care initiatives.
  20. Perform other duties as assigned.
Education:

Bachelor of Science or PharmD degree from an accredited institution, with a current, unrestricted pharmacist license. Experience in retail or ambulatory pharmacy (0-3 years) preferred.
