Job Details

The PRN Pharmacist interprets physicians' prescriptions, compounds, and dispenses medications within regulatory guidelines. Supervises the clinical activities of pharmacy technicians. Consults and counsels patients on medication use and potential drug interactions, handling complex problems. This position is compliance-critical, with specific responsibilities to ensure continual adherence to all division, corporate, and regulatory requirements.

Location:
  • Lorain County Health & Dentistry, 1205 Broadway, Lorain, OH 44052
  • Erie County Health Department, 20 Superior Street, Sandusky, Ohio 44870
Hours:

Coverage for call outs and scheduled PTO, Monday through Friday, 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM. Closed weekends and holidays.

Responsibilities:
  1. Evaluate, prepare, and dispense medications, verifying prescriptions according to standards and legal requirements.
  2. Perform medication reconciliation processes to ensure seamless patient care upon discharge.
  3. Provide excellent customer service and clinical care.
  4. Consult with patients on medications, including dosage, frequency, and interactions.
  5. Review and evaluate patient care plans for appropriateness.
  6. Contribute to business goals and marketing efforts for the ambulatory pharmacy.
  7. Assist in fiscal management to optimize profits and control expenses.
  8. Manage pharmacy technicians, including hiring, training, and performance evaluation.
  9. Monitor staff performance to ensure compliance with policies and regulations.
  10. Maintain procedures related to quality assurance, security of controlled substances, and record keeping.
  11. Handle prescription claims to ensure proper reimbursement and follow up on issues.
  12. Establish and maintain pricing structures.
  13. Recommend operational improvements for patient care and efficiency.
  14. Verify prescriptions and guide pharmacy technicians.
  15. Respond to patient inquiries and resolve issues promptly.
  16. Provide organizational consultation on pharmacy matters.
  17. Manage scheduling and reporting for pharmacy staff.
  18. Ensure patient profiles are updated for insurance and compliance.
  19. Participate in departmental meetings and training.
  20. Collaborate with organizational personnel on quality and service initiatives.
  21. Perform other duties as assigned.
Education:

Bachelor of Science Degree or Pharm D from an accredited school, with a valid, unrestricted pharmacist license. Experience in retail/ambulatory pharmacy, business administration, sales, marketing, or IT is desirable. Typically requires 0-3 years of related experience.
