The Radiologic Technologist provides clinical services according to radiology practice standards to ensure optimal department functions. Demonstrates skills and knowledge in use of all x-ray equipment and performance of all x-ray protocols and procedures. Demonstrates technical proficiency in producing high quality exams within the appropriate length of time for the procedure.
Demonstrates a satisfactory working knowledge of PACS and reviews scans with Radiologists as needed, focusing on important anatomic details and abnormalities. Confirms patient identity, body part, and body side for every patient prior to the procedure.
Provides patient care according to department and hospital policies to ensure safety: communicates effectively with patients, obtains clinical history/informed consent, explains procedures, and answers questions to ease anxiety and ensure cooperation. Recognizes clinical or emergent problems, takes appropriate action, and follows up on critical test findings. Evaluates lab values (BUN, CR, pregnancy, glucose) when applicable to ensure they are within normal limits.
Maintains equipment, exam rooms, and work areas in a neat and safe condition: inspects for hazards, troubleshoots malfunctions, reports dangerous conditions, maintains supplies, and disinfects equipment.
Performs quality control checks as per policy: participates in QC and PI programs, maintains sterile technique, practices aseptic techniques, and adheres to body substance isolation policies. Wears film badge and follows departmental badge policies.
Completes ancillary tasks for departmental efficiency: records information accurately, performs clerical duties, and inputs/verifies data in PACS/RADIANT.
