Responsibilities

The Home Health Physical Therapist Assistant (PTA, LPTA) performs treatment, provides exercise instruction, and patient education aimed at improving/enhancing the patient's well-being while following the established plan of care.

  • Responsible for following all state-specific laws governing the provision of physical therapy in home care, following the treatment plan set only as defined by the supervising PT; performing only procedures qualified and trained for; and making recommendations for changes in the plan of care to the supervising Physical Therapist.
  • Instructs and aids patients in active and passive exercises, muscle re-education, gait, functional activities, ADL, transfer, safety, and prosthetic training.
  • Observes, records, and reports to the supervising PT, nurse supervisor, and/or physician the patient's response to treatment and changes in condition. Coordinates care with other healthcare team members as appropriate.
  • Instructs patients, families, caregivers, and other healthcare team members within the scope of practice of the physical therapy assistant.

Education and Experience

License Requirements

  • Current license, registration, or certification to assist in physical therapy practice in the state of practice.
  • Current CPR certification is required.
  • Valid driver's license, vehicle insurance, and access to a dependable vehicle or public transportation.
