Job summary

UT Health San Antonio is seeking a PRN phlebotomist to provide phlebotomy services for the phlebotomy team. This 0.1 FTE position has no regular schedule and hours will vary based on staffing and operational needs.

Preferred availability is Monday through Friday, with coverage needed during either the 4:00 AM-12:30 PM or 1:00 PM–8:30 PM time frame. Responsibilities include properly identifying patients, drawing blood, labeling specimens, maintaining records, and ensuring accurate test collection

Qualifications

One year experience drawing blood or equivalent preferred.
Ability to apply standard safety and infection control procedures.
Strong verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills.

Responsibilities

Properly identifies patient according to policy, draws blood samples, labels specimens and sends to laboratory for analysis.
Maintains records of tests performed and samples taken.
Generates patient collection lists and labels, ensures the correct tests are collected by verifying collection of all specimens and labels STATS with stickers.
Checks collection batches and overdue lists frequently and ensures that all orders are promptly collected.
Performs special tests to include clotting time, bleeding time and glucose tolerance tests as needed and reports results.
Inventories supplies, equipment and requisitions as needed.
Stocks workstation with necessary supplies.
Performs all other duties as assigned.
