Job summary

UAB Medicine is seeking a PRN Advanced Practice Nurse (Critical Care) to provide weekend coverage at UAB St. Vincent’s East.

The role requires onsite rounding and call duties, with responsibilities spanning patient evaluation, treatment, and collaboration with intensivists to ensure high-quality, cost-conscious care. A Master’s degree in Nursing is required, along with BLS certification and Alabama APN licensure/credentialing.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree in Nursing required.
• BLS provider certification required within 1 month of hire.
• APN credentialing from Alabama Board of Nursing required prior to hire.

Responsibilities

• Evaluates and treats patients with appropriate medical diagnostic and treatment skills.
• Recommends and participates in efforts to improve cost effectiveness and quality of care.
• Accepts referrals and acts as admitting/attending/consulting physician for hospitalized patients as needed.
• Participates in academic programs (education and research) as requested.
• Documents to meet insurance requirements and appeals denials timely.
• Participates in inpatient/outpatient consultations for specialty, including on-call schedules.

Responsibilities

What You Will Do

• Evaluates and treats patients with appropriate medical diagnostic and treatment skills.
• Recommends, participates in, and works to ensure the success of efforts to improve cost effectiveness and quality of care provided to patients.
• Accepts patient referrals from other physicians. Acts as admitting, attending and/or consulting physician for patients who require hospitalization for primary medical diagnoses, depending on needs of patients, medical staff and hospital.
• Participates in academic programs (e.g. medical education and research) as requested.
• Provides appropriate documentation that meets insurance company requirements; appeal all denials in a timely manner.
• Participates in inpatient and outpatient consultation for specialty, which may include on call schedules.

Licensure/Certification/Registration

What You Will Need

• BLS Provider credentialed from the American Heart Association (AHA) obtained within 1 Month (30 days) of hire date or job transfer date required.
• Certified Advanced Practice Advanced Practice Nurse Practitioner credentialed from the Alabama Board of Nursing obtained prior to hire date or job transfer date required.
• Drug Enforcement Admin credentialed from the Drug Enforcement Administration preferred.

Education

• Master's degree of Nursing required.
