Wellstar Douglas in Douglasville, Georgia is seeking a PRN Medical Technologist. The Medical Technologist is under the general supervision of the Supervisors, Manager or Director; performs clinical laboratory testing pursuant to established and approved protocols requiring the exercise of independent judgment and responsibility, maintains equipment and records, performs quality assurance activities related to test performance and may supervise and teach within the laboratory setting.

Accuracy: Maintains acceptable accuracy in-patient, quality assurance, proficiency, and competency testing.

Critical Thinking: Uses clinical/ theoretical knowledge to analyze, investigate, interpret, and report lab data.

Job Knowledge: Maintains current personal training, education and practice of policies and procedures.

Productivity: Practices organizational skills for efficiency of time, materials, cost, and availability of lab data

Communication: Practices information monitoring, investigation, resolution, and hand-off to team members.

Performs other duties as assigned

Core Responsibilities And Essential Functions

Maintains acceptable accuracy in patient, quality assurance, proficiency, and competency testing.

  • Meets department standard for correct patient or specimen identification.
  • Meets department standard for error rate in testing or reporting patient or QC results.
  • Consistently documents investigation and correct interpretation of QA failures or trends.
  • Earns acceptable scores in proficiency testing and personnel competency testing.
  • Maintains instrumentation for testing.

Uses clinical/ theoretical knowledge to analyze, investigate, interpret, and report lab data.

  • Reports lab data accurately and within established turnaround times and productivity standards.
  • Recognizes the relationship between lab data and clinical findings or expectations.
  • Interprets information from multiple sources

Practices information monitoring, investigation, resolution, and hand-off to team members.

  • Complies with Pending Log procedure for tracking laboratory test status.
  • Documents in the LIS all elements of the Notification Value Call procedure.
  • Hands-off information to others according to the department procedure and chain of command.
  • Adheres to WellStar’s Standards of Behavior in a consistent fashion.
  • Takes personal responsibility for corrective action on constructive criticism

Contributes to the Laboratory’s Performance Improvements and inspection readiness.

  • Assists in analysis of new methods for testing including correlations and procedure writing.
  • Assists in inspection preparation.
  • Participates in the Laboratory Performance Improvement initiatives.
  • Practices cost-efficient work processes that maintain high quality laboratory data.

Maintains current personal training, education and practice of policies and procedures.

  • Maintains current knowledge and practice of WellStar policies and procedures, including LIS.
  • Demonstrates adequate knowledge of laboratory regulatory compliance.
  • Practices all WellStar and Laboratory Safety Standards.
  • Participates in meetings, committees, task forces and project teams.
  • Completes monthly, quarterly, or yearly educational requirements.

Required Minimum Education

Bachelor's Degree in Medical Technology or related science except for HEW. Required

Med Tech ASCP Certification Required or

Med Technologist (AMT) Required or

Med Technologist (AAB) Required

Additional Licenses And Certifications

MLS (MT) or equivalent from an accrediting agency approved by Georgia Department of Community Health. Upon Hire Required and

HEW, AMT Upon Hire Required and

Persons who possess the technologist qualifications and have recently moved into the state or have recently completed the academic and training/experience requirements may be temporarily classified once as technologists for eighteen (18) months to afford the persons an opportunity to successfully complete an approved qualifying examination. within 1-1/2 Yrs Required and

MLS (MT) certification eligible candidates must pass certification within 18 months of hire. within 1-1/2 Yrs Required and

Active employees with a MT(AAB) or MT (AMT) working as an MT in WellStar as of 9/1/20 will be grandfathered into this position. Upon Hire Required

Less than 1 year Laboratory experience Preferred

Required Minimum Skills

Computer/data entry experience.

Ability to communicate with various members of the healthcare team.

Ability to use EXCEL, Word and have basic computer operational knowledge.

Epic And 3M Experience Preferred.
