Job summary

American Family Care is seeking a PRN Medical Assistant to support our urgent care centers across AL, CT, FL, GA, MA & TN. This role blends clinical duties with front-desk responsibilities, and offers flexible scheduling with a minimum of 4 shifts per month.

Key duties include patient greeting and triage, venipuncture, point-of-care testing, insurance verification, registration, EMR documentation, and ensuring HIPAA compliance. A CMA/CCMA/RMA certification is preferred and BLS is required.

Qualifications

• Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant program.
• Active national MA certification (CMA, RMA, CCMA, or equivalent) at hire.
• At least 1+ year of experience with insurance verification and patient registration.
• Active BLS certification required or must be obtained within onboarding period.
• Urgent care or emergency room experience valued.
• EMR proficiency (Experity preferred); comfort with payer portals (Waystar).
• Proven venipuncture and specimen collection skills.

Responsibilities

• Greet and triage patients, collect vitals/histories, perform venipuncture and CLIA-waived point-of-care testing, assist with minor procedures, wound care, EKGs, and nebulizer therapy.
• Register patients, verify insurance eligibility, determine financial responsibility, collect co-pays, reconcile payment logs, and maintain EMR accuracy.
• Educate patients on clinical procedures and financial expectations, provide discharge instructions, and de-escalate concerns with empathy and professionalism.
• Participate in daily huddles, maintain compliance logs, support infection-control and HIPAA standards.
