Job summary

Peak View Behavioral Health in Colorado Springs seeks a PRN ECT Registered Nurse to provide dedicated nursing care around electroconvulsive therapy, with pre- and post-treatment support and collaboration with the interdisciplinary team.

The role requires RN licensure, ACLS and BLS certifications, plus familiarity with psychiatric nursing; the position is onsite with a competitive hourly pay and a comprehensive benefits package.

Qualifications

• Graduation from an approved/accredited school of nursing.
• Two or more years' nursing experience in clinical areas preferred.
• Experience in behavioral health/psychiatric/addiction recovery preferred.
• Knowledge of psychotropic medications and administration procedures.

Responsibilities

• Educates patients/families regarding ECT and assists in informed consent.
• Coordinates assessments and medical workups with the patient.
• Ensures all workup requirements are complete before start of ECT.
• Documents and maintains patient medical records.
• Obtains prior authorizations from insurance as indicated.
• Prepares treatment area and maintains equipment for ECT.
• Monitors vital signs and psychiatric status post-treatment.
• Provides discharge instructions and follow-up care guidance.

PRN ECT Registered Nurse | Peak View Behavioral Health | Colorado Springs, Colorado

About the Job:

PURPOSE STATEMENT: The ECT Registered Nurse is responsible for providing nursing care to patients. Provides educational and emotional support to the patients. Participates in pre-treatment planning and assessment and reassessment. Prepares and monitors the patient during the procedure and provides post treatment care and evaluation. Communicates appropriate information with the interdisciplinary team. Reports patient concerns and changes in condition to supervisor and/or physician in a timely manner.

Pay Range: $43.00-45.00 hourly.

BLS and ACLS certifications required.

Roles and Responsibilities:

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

• Educates patients and their families regarding ECT. Assists in the informed consent process.
• Coordinates with patient all assessments, second opinion and medical workup.
• Ensures all workup requirements are complete before start of ECT.
• Documents and maintains patient medical record.
• Obtains prior authorizations from insurance companies as indicated.
• Prepares treatment area for administration of ECT.
• Maintains supplies including medications and relevant equipment required for treatment.
• Prepares IV administration equipment.
• Prepares patient for treatment: applies EKG leads, blood pressure cuff, pulse oximeter.
• Ensures patient data entered into Mecta and Nihon machine.
• Applies electrodes for unilateral or bilateral treatment as per doctors order.
• Observes readouts on machine monitoring vital signs and cardiac function.
• Provides support to patient’s limbs during seizure as needed. Observes and records seizure time
• After treatment, monitors vital signs and mental status, orients patients to time and place, cares for IV, administers oxygen if indicated.
• Provides reassurance to patient regarding any memory loss
• Remains with patient until fully awake and oriented and meets discharge criteria
• Documents discharge instructions. Gives discharge instructions to patient and/or caregiver
• Completes all documentation relevant to treatment and the care of the patient.
• Prepares records for next treatment session.

Education/Experience/Skill Requirements:

• Graduation from an approved/accredited school of nursing. Bachelor's degree preferred.
• Two or more years' nursing experience within clinical area of service provided by facility preferred.
• Experience in behavioral health/psychiatric/addiction recovery environment preferred.
• Knowledge of and experience with psychotropic medications and medication administration procedures.

Licenses/Designations/Certifications:

• Valid current RN license from the state or from a compact state, where applicable.
• ACLS certification required or obtained upon hire.
• Certified in Psychiatric Nursing preferred.
• BLS and de-escalation and restraint certification required (training available upon hire and offered by facility).
• First aid may be required based on state or facility requirements.

Work Location:

This position is onsite at the facility and is not a remote position.
