The PRN Cook is responsible for preparing, cooking, and serving nutritious, high-quality meals in accordance with standardized recipes, physician-ordered diets, and established dietary guidelines while maintaining compliance with all food safety and sanitation regulations. Working on an as-needed basis, the PRN Cook provides coverage for scheduled staff absences, increased meal volumes, and other staffing needs to ensure uninterrupted kitchen operations and timely meal service. This position prepares breakfast, lunch, dinner, snacks, and special meals, ensuring proper portion control, food quality, appearance, and temperature while accommodating therapeutic and modified diets as required. The PRN Cook operates commercial kitchen equipment safely and efficiently, follows proper food storage, labeling, dating, and inventory rotation procedures, and assists with receiving and stocking food deliveries. The position is responsible for maintaining a clean, organized, and sanitary kitchen by cleaning work areas, equipment, and food preparation surfaces and adhering to infection control, workplace safety, and sanitation standards. The PRN Cook communicates effectively with supervisors, dietary staff, nursing personnel, and other departments to support accurate meal service, reports equipment malfunctions or safety concerns promptly, and provides courteous, professional service to residents, patients, guests, and staff. Additional responsibilities include assisting with special events or holiday meals, supporting overall dietary department operations, and performing other duties as assigned while demonstrating flexibility to work various shifts, weekends, holidays, and short-notice assignments as needed.
