Job summary

Atrium Health in Wilkes Medical Center is seeking a Certified Nurse Assistant I to support patient care in the Progressive Care Unit. The PRN schedule provides flexible shifts to assist with fluctuating patient census and staffing needs.

The role requires NC Nurse Aide I certification, NC registration, and a high school diploma. BLS is required, with PEARS possible in some areas within a year. You will collaborate with RNs and LPNs to ensure safe, timely patient care.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED is required.
• Completion of NC State-approved Nurse Aide I course is required.
• Nurse Aide I registration with NC DHHS Regulation is required.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
• PEARS may be required within one year in select areas.

Responsibilities

• Assist medical staff with patient preparation, examinations, and procedures, including patient interviews, data documentation, and vital signs monitoring.
• Participate in implementing the nursing process by providing direct care to patients under the guidance of an RN or LPN.
• Prepare and maintain examination rooms, ensuring cleanliness, restocking, and proper equipment setup.
• Ensure complete, accurate, and timely communication of patient information within the healthcare team.
• Collect and process specimens for diagnostic testing following policy guidelines.
• Accurately document all patient care provided in the medical record according to medical center policy.
• Maintain competency for point of care testing as assigned, ensuring compliance with policies and regulations.
• Communicate effectively with the healthcare team, colleagues, patients, and family members in a professional and positive manner.
• Take personal responsibility and initiative for professional growth and development.
• Provide age/developmentally appropriate patient care following guidelines for the clinical population served.
• Comply with Medical Center Infection Prevention policies to manage infectious materials using proper techniques, sanitization, chemical disinfection, surgical asepsis, and safe handling of biohazardous materials.
• Adhere to the Medical Center's mission, vision, values, and the Department of Nursing and Service Line standards in patient care.
• Perform other relevant duties as assigned.
