Job summary

OPCO Skilled Management is seeking a PRN cook to prepare and serve meals in accordance with menus and recipes, while monitoring safety and food handling guidelines. The role emphasizes nutritious, quality food service in a healthcare setting and adherence to federal, state, and local regulations.

The ideal candidate has high school education or equivalent and prior cooking experience in large-scale operations, with preference for long-term care exposure.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
• Two years as cook in a large-scale operation preferred.
• One year’s work experience in long term care preferred.

Responsibilities

• Prepares meals according to planned menus and standardized recipes; consults supervisor or dietitian for changes.
• Reviews menus, census, production guides and pre-prep sheets to determine food quantities.
• Prepares food following safety guidelines and state/federal codes.
• Assists with food ordering, storage and preparation as designated; ensures timely service.
• Maintains standards for quality; uses substitutes when required; follows recipes.
• Operates kitchen equipment (blenders, mixers, slicers, steamer, oven, range, tilts).
• Prepares consistency modifed and diet foods; assists with special meals.
• Performs washing, peeling, and cutting as needed; portions meats for menu compliance.
• Presents dishes attractively; tastes for palatability; records temperatures before service.
• Makes menu changes under supervision; uses nutrition substitutes when approved.
• Practices proper handwashing; stores foods correctly; uses gloves; checks fridges/freezers temperatures.
• Maintains cleaning schedules; cleans work areas and equipment; handles trash.
• Meets meal schedules; reports to the Dietary Manager as needed.
• Other duties may be assigned.

Education
