Job summary

The J in Overland Park, KS is seeking a part-time music instructor to teach private piano and voice lessons to students from elementary age through adults. Lessons are 30 minutes, with Tue/Wed/Thu 4-6:30pm slots and occasional Sundays for the program.

The instructor will collaborate with the Arts Education Director and families to run final performances. Applicants should have 1–2 years of teaching experience, curriculum planning ability, and a flexible, creative approach.

Qualifications

• 1-2 years prior teaching experience, preferably teaching elementary-high school students
• Ability to prepare curriculum for subject matter
• Flexibility, creativity and ability to meet student needs in terms of goals, levels, and areas of interest
• Able to use basic computer technology such as email and time clock
• Knowledge of Jewish culture, values and traditions or willingness to learn
• Excellent verbal communication skills
• Able to build positive relationships with a diverse group of students

Responsibilities

• Teach in a manner that promotes artistic growth from participants
• Stay current on teaching styles and music trends to implement in the lessons
• Work with supervisor to communicate cancelations & scheduling
• Record and submit attendance records weekly
• Maintain a clean and organized area to work with others using the space
• Attend mandatory meetings/trainings
• Communicate openly and clearly with families
• Coordinate and implement final performances & showcases with the Director, Arts Education.
