Job summary

MeetAGardener seeks an experienced gardener to care for an established residential garden in the Portland area on an ongoing basis. Ideal candidates enjoy plants, understand growth, and can take ownership of garden health, beauty, and maintenance.

Typically about 6–8 hours per week with seasonal flexibility. Compensation ranges from $30–$45 per hour, depending on experience and knowledge. Portland area, long-term position.

Qualifications

• Experience with Pacific Northwest plants and gardens is preferred.
• Professional gardening, horticulture, nursery, Master Gardener or similar experience is ideal.
• Ability to work independently and take initiative.
• Available for ~6–8 hours per week; some seasonal flexibility.

Responsibilities

• Hand weeding and maintaining garden beds.
• Pruning shrubs, roses, and ornamental plants.
• Deadheading and seasonal cutbacks; improving soil.
• Dividing and transplanting perennials.
• Fertilizing, mulching, and monitoring irrigation.
• Seasonal garden cleanup and plant recommendations.

We are looking for an experienced, knowledgeable gardener to help care for an established residential garden in the Portland area on an ongoing basis.This is not a mow-and-blow landscaping position. We are looking for someone who genuinely enjoys gardening, understands plants, and can gradually take ownership of keeping the garden healthy, beautiful and well maintained.Ideally, we would like someone to come approximately one full day per week (6–8 hours), with some flexibility depending on the season.Responsibilities may include:* Hand weeding and maintaining garden beds* Proper pruning of shrubs, roses and ornamental plants* Deadheading and seasonal cutbacks* Dividing and transplanting perennials* Planting and replacing plants as needed* Fertilizing, composting, mulching and improving soil* Identifying pest, disease or plant-health issues* Monitoring irrigation and identifying watering problems* Seasonal garden cleanup* Recommending plants and improvements* Keeping the garden attractive throughout the yearWe would especially like someone who can look around the garden, recognize what needs to be done and take initiative, rather than simply working from a task list.Experience with Pacific Northwest plants and gardens is strongly preferred.
