Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
• 5-7+ years of progressive accounting and/or financial reporting experience, with a strong focus on investments, alternative investments, or financial services.
• Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP and Statutory accounting related to investment portfolios.
• Hands-on experience accounting for private equity, limited partnerships, hedge funds, tax credit investments, or other alternative assets.
• Experience leading projects, process improvements, system enhancements, or cross-functional initiatives.
• Prior experience coaching, mentoring, or supervising accounting professionals; direct-report management experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Lead accounting and reporting activities for private equity, limited partnerships, rated note feeders, tax credit investments, and other alternative asset classes.
• Review complex investment transactions and determine appropriate accounting treatment under U.S. GAAP and Statutory accounting.
• Review and approve journal entries, reconciliations, investment schedules, and supporting documentation.
• Lead quarterly and annual investment reporting packages, financial statement schedules, and alternative investment disclosures.
• Partner with Financial Reporting to ensure accurate presentation and disclosure of investment activity.
• Research complex technical accounting issues and document accounting conclusions and recommendations.
• Analyze investment results, including capital calls, distributions, valuation changes, equity method income, impairments, and realized/unrealized gains and losses.
• Lead, coach, and mentor two direct reports, providing technical guidance, prioritization, and professional development.

Our client is seeking a Private Equity & Alternative Asset Accounting and Reporting Lead to join its Investment Accounting team and take ownership of accounting and financial reporting for a sophisticated portfolio of alternative investments.

This is a highly visible opportunity for an experienced investment accounting professional with expertise in private equity, limited partnerships, alternative investments, and financial reporting. The role combines hands‑on technical accounting with team leadership, oversight of two direct reports, and significant exposure to senior stakeholders across Finance, Tax, Actuarial, Investment Operations, and Financial Reporting.

The ideal candidate is a strong technical accountant who enjoys working with complex investments, solving challenging accounting issues, developing people, and driving process improvements.
