Job summary

Oliver Inc. is seeking a dedicated 2nd shift press operator to power quick make-readies, steady production, and reliable quality for folding carton work. You will partner with the Lead Pressman to turn detailed specs into finished products that meet exacting standards.

You’ll support color accuracy, maintain equipment, and help train apprentices while covering breaks as needed. This role focuses on performance, safety, and teamwork in a fast-paced manufacturing setting.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required; ability to read, write, speak, and understand English.
• Minimum 1 year operating a multi-color offset, flexographic, or gravure press or as a 2nd/Assistant Pressman.
• Familiarity with color processes and basic computer skills preferred.
• Exposure to 4-color process; Mitsubishi press; blanket changes, cylinder packing, wash-ups, and fountain systems preferred.
• Experience with paperboard, UV inks, in-line coating, and color-densitometry is valued.

Responsibilities

• Review job orders, instructions, proofs, save sheets, and specs before each run.
• Support make-ready: install/remove plates, blankets, and coating blankets; pack plate/blanket cylinders per machine and paperboard requirements.
• Set and tune side guides, head stops, gripper fingers, and double-sheet detectors.
• Maintain fountain solution conductivity and tank levels; replenish inks and coatings.
• Retrieve, mount, and return inks and plates; wash ink units, blankets, cylinders, and fountain tanks.
• Set up and use scanning densitometers to verify color and density; assist in identifying non-conforming materials.
• Perform preventative maintenance, including roller changes and minor repairs.
• Remove finished product and stage to the correct area.
• Maintain cleanliness, organization, and safety; assist with training Press Apprentices; cover Lead Pressman during breaks.
• Other duties as assigned.

Schedule

2nd shift, 3:00pm to 11:30pm.

How you’ll contribute

• Review job orders, department instructions, proofs, save sheets, and specifications before each run.
• Support make-ready: install/remove plates, blankets, and coating blankets; pack plate/blanket cylinders per machine and paperboard requirements.
• Set and fine-tune side guides, head stops, gripper fingers, and double-sheet detectors.
• Maintain fountain solution conductivity and tank levels; replenish inks, coatings, and offset powder.
• Retrieve, mount, and return inks and plates; wash ink units, blankets, cylinders, and fountain tanks between jobs.
• Set up and use scanning densitometers to verify color and density; assist in identifying and segregating non-conforming materials.
• Perform preventative maintenance support, including roller changes and minor repairs.
• Remove finished product from the press and stage to the correct area.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment; assist with training Press Apprentices; cover the Lead Pressman during breaks.
• Other duties as assigned.

What you bring

• High school diploma or GED; ability to read, write, speak, and understand English.
• Accurate color vision; comfortable with fractions/decimals; basic computer skills preferred.
• Minimum 1 year operating a multi-color offset, flexographic, or gravure press, or serving as a 2nd Pressman/Feeder or Assistant Pressman on a multi-color offset crew.
• Preferred exposure: 4-color process; Mitsubishi press; blanket changes, cylinder packing, wash-ups, and fountain systems.
• Highly valued: experience with paperboard, UV inks, in-line coating, and scanning/handheld densitometry.
• Sharp attention to detail with continuous in-process inspection; ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
