Job summary

Sheridan Group in Wisconsin is hiring for an entry-level press helper on a 12-hour shift (6p-6a) with pay $19.75–$21.25 per hour. We train you and offer potential progression on the Lithoman/Sunday/Timson press families as you gain skills and availability.

The role focuses on set-up help, sign bundling, pallet stacking, and basic maintenance. Shift requires reliability, lifting, and willingness to work overtime.

Qualifications

• Basic mechanical and math skills required.
• Able to learn bundling, assist in make-readies, and follow press operator directions.
• Able to obtain and maintain Type II forklift certification.
• Strong attendance and ability to work overtime.
• Experience on web or sheet fed press is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Assist in set-up of folder, stacker, and sheeter.
• Uniformly bundle folded signatures and stack on pallet.
• Ensure pallet and supplies are stocked; notify shortages.
• Perform minor machine adjustments and assist in web up.
• Assist in make-readies and press cleaning/maintenance.

Job Summary

Responsible for assisting operators with basic set‑up functions and for checking product to ensure highest level of quality. This position is the first level in a three-step career progression on the Lithoman Press, a four-step career progression on the Sunday Press, and a two-step career progression on the Timson Press. When adequately trained and a second level position opens, progression to next level will be offered and may require a shift change.

Duties/Responsibilities

• Monitor Assist in set-up of folder, stacker, and sheeter.
• Uniformly bundle folded book signatures and stack banded and loose signatures on pallet using the hoist when available.
• Ensure pallet, banding, and other supply materials are stocked; notify necessary personnel of shortages.
• Perform minor machine adjustments and assist in web up of press when necessary.
• Assist in make‑ready including wiping down blankets, changing ink, and performing clean up on and around press. Assist as needed in mounting plates/blankets and perform maintenance on press equipment.
• Responsible for cleaning and general housekeeping in department.
• Grease, oil, and maintain press equipment as scheduled or required.
• Foster the continual use and implementation of philosophies and tools that are taught at Sheridan while promoting the concept of working together as a team and with other departments to building continuous improvement within Sheridan.
• Train to perform next level position to effectively cover absences and breaks as well as to be sufficiently prepared for job progression.
• Continually identify, develop, and implement improvements in work processes.
• Consistently and effectively serve as a positive role model by living Sheridan’s core values.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Basic Qualifications

• Basic mechanical and math skills required.
• Ability to learn and understand bundling, roll tending, assisting crew during make-readies, and actively participate in production-related activities and follow the direction of the press operators and supervisors.
• Ability to perform repetitive tasks for an extended period of time.
• Ability to obtain and maintain Type II Forklift certification.
• Knowledge of arithmetic and structure and content of the English language to include the meaning and spelling of words, rules of composition required.
• Ability to consistently and effectively work independently with little or no direction and follow up to complete assignments required.
• Ability to demonstrate practical and technical knowledge of the job including an understanding of work instructions, processes, equipment, and materials to perform the job required.
• Ability to consistently and effectively complete work and required paperwork thoroughly, accurately, and neatly following established processes and procedures required.
• Ability to consistently and effectively demonstrate initiative and creativity; teamwork and cooperation; and adhere to and comply with all company and environmental, health, and safety policies, procedures, and work rules required.
• Ability to meet deadlines and work overtime and other shifts required.
• Prompt and reliable attendance required.

DesiredQualifications

• Previous web or sheet fed press experience preferred.

Working Conditions

Work is performed in a manufacturing environment with regular exposure to dust, dirt, noise, and physical hazards of machinery, plus some exposure to fumes, oils, lubricants, and chemicals. Position requires ability to move with ease in the production area; remain in stationary position for prolonged periods of time on concrete/hard surface; use hands and fingers constantly for handling, gripping, and manipulating product; constantly position oneself to complete work including bending, twisting, rotating, and reaching; and move product weighing up to 100 pounds.
