Job summary

Kiewit is seeking a Principal Water Engineer to lead and mentor multidisciplinary teams in municipal water design across North America. You will shape treatment strategies, drive design development, and ensure constructability and cost-effectiveness from early modeling to startup and commissioning.

The role emphasizes technical leadership, process optimization, and pursuit leadership, with relocation options and travel as required.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree or higher in Chemical, Mechanical, or Civil/Environmental Engineering or related engineering discipline.
Minimum of 15 years’ experience in process development, conceptual and detailed design in municipal/industrial water market.
PE registration preferred.
Willingness for travel (20–30%; up to 50% if remote).
Experience leading design-build projects and process design leadership.

Responsibilities

Provide technical and engineering leadership for Municipal Water treatment design, selecting and sizing treatment technologies.
Serve as technical authority for treatment process decisions and critical design deliverables.
Mentor senior and mid-level engineers within the team.
Establish and enforce Kiewit’s water design standards and best practices.
Ensure designs are constructible and cost-effective, supporting procurement of major equipment.
Lead proposals and pursuits, develop process narratives and basis of design documents.
Oversee multi-disciplinary design teams and ensure quality across engineering deliverables.
Support permitting, startup, commissioning and operator training.
