Job summary

Collins Aerospace in Sterling, VA, is seeking a Principal Systems Engineer to design, integrate, and sustain advanced training systems for military platforms. You will own requirements across the full lifecycle and work with multidisciplinary teams in a defense environment.

Role requires DoD Secret clearance Day 1, US citizenship, and on-site presence in a classified lab. Strong MBSE background and STEM degree with substantial experience are essential.

Qualifications

• Experience with capture, analysis, and decomposition of system requirements.
• Understanding of the product development lifecycle – CONOPS to Sustainment.
• MBSE design tools (SysML) using Enterprise Architect, Cameo, or equivalent.
• Ability to work in a classified environment and maintain security clearance.
• Strong communication and collaboration skills.
• On-site presence in a classified lab space.
• STEM degree with 8+ years’ experience or advanced degree with 5+ years.
• Active DoD Secret clearance and U.S. citizenship.

Responsibilities

• Be the focal point for systems engineering activities across the full lifecycle of training systems.
• Interface with customers, program managers, and internal stakeholders to align technical solutions with mission requirements.
• Ensure training systems accurately represent aircraft mission systems, including radar, comms, and C2 functions.
• Collaborate with software, hardware, and simulation engineers to integrate subsystems.
• Identify risks and develop mitigation strategies for system performance and delivery.
• Support upgrades, modifications, and obsolescence management for training systems.
• Mentor junior engineers and drive continuous improvement of engineering processes.
