Job summary

Fidelity Investments Inc. seeks a Principal Systems Analyst to conduct complex assessments of business processes and system behaviors for large-scale reporting and decision-support solutions.

You will analyze large data sets with MySQL, translate objectives into system requirements, and craft user stories using Jira to support multi-team delivery. Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology, Information Systems, or a closely related field (or foreign education equivalent) and five (5) years of experience as a Principal Systems Analyst performing business and system analysis to support data analytics and BI solutions.
• Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology, Information Systems, or related field and three (3) years of experience as a Principal Systems Analyst delivering BI solutions.

Responsibilities

• Interviews with business users to gather requirements and analyzes technology needs and system/workflow challenges.
• Develops recommendations addressing complex business needs and opportunities.
• Establishes full project life cycle plans for complex systems analysis projects and defines project scope.
• Prepares documents for large and complex projects ensuring quality and consistency across analysts.
• Designs new systems based on requirements.
• Participates in defining test strategies and coordinates user acceptance testing.
• Communicates progress to management and aligns stakeholders.
• Serves as industry subject matter expert and sources requirements from other SMEs.
• Works with teams to evolve standards and practices for systems analysis.
• Participates in incident/crisis management with production support.
• Advises on risk assessment and risk management strategies.
• Coaches and mentors junior analysts and developers.

Position Description:

Conducts complex assessments of interconnected business processes and system behaviors to define the analytical and informational capabilities required for large-scale reporting and decision-support solutions. Analyzes large data sets using MySQL to validate requirement accuracy and ensure alignment with data storage and analytics platform architectures. Translates business objectives into structured system requirements and crafts detailed user stories using Atlassian tools and Jira, to support multi-team technology delivery. Maintains and prioritizes Agile backlogs and applies SCRUM methodologies to plan, coordinate, and validate analytics and visualization solutions, contributing to daily stand-ups, scrum-of-scrums, sprint planning, backlog refinement, demos, and retrospectives. Creates advanced system models, interaction diagrams, data mappings, and multi-platform specifications to define non-functional requirements, acceptance criteria, and integration sequencing. Performs deep evaluation of interface contracts, message structures, and data transformations, and validates assumptions or defects through log and telemetry analysis. Identifies modernization paths for legacy components through quantitative assessment of technical debt, operational constraints, and regulatory considerations, and maintains traceability using Jira while versioning artifacts in Git.

• Serves as industry subject matter expert, and identifies other subject matter experts who are the sources of requirements for large and complex projects.
• Works with other teams to evolve standards and best practices for systems analysis processes.
• Participates in incident/crisis management to assess business impact, determine/facilitate any workarounds, in concert with the production support organization.
• Advises on risk assessment and risk management strategies.
• Coaches and mentors junior system analysts and developers on systems analysis techniques and business workflows.

Education and Experience:

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology, Information Systems, or a closely related field (or foreign education equivalent) and five (5) years of experience as a Principal Systems Analyst (or closely related occupation) performing business and system analysis to support the delivery of data analytics and business intelligence technology solutions.

Or, alternatively, Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology, Information Systems, or a closely related field (or foreign education equivalent) and three (3) years of experience as a Principal Systems Analyst (or closely related occupation) performing business and system analysis to support the delivery of data analytics and business intelligence technology solutions.

Skills and Knowledge:

Candidate must also possess:

• Demonstrated Expertise (DE) analyzing, prioritizing, and communicating business and functional requirements using Atlassian products; and analyzing and translating requirements to craft stories in support of developing technology solutions, using Jira.
• DE conducting research and analysis of large data sets ensuring accuracy in reporting across regulatory reporting applications using analytical tools including Power BI and Tableau.
• DE planning, coordinating, and testing data analytics and visualization technology solutions according to Agile or SCRUM methodologies.
• DE maintaining Agile backlogs with emphasis on prioritization; participating in and coordinating Agile ceremonies -- daily stand-ups, scrum of scrums, sprint planning, back-log refinement, and demo and retrospective meetings -- with program stakeholders, using JIRA.

Salary: $120,739.00 to $137,000.00/year.

Fidelity is transitioning to a full-time onsite working model through a phased rollout across regions and roles.
