Job summary

Raytheon is seeking a Principal System Administrator (analyst) to support secure, classified programs in a DoD environment. You will design, implement, and maintain Linux environments, virtualization stacks, and hybrid infrastructure across teams with a focus on security and compliance.

You will collaborate with engineers, cybersecurity, storage, and networking groups, while adhering to DFARS and RMF frameworks.

Qualifications

• Typically requires a University Degree or equivalent experience and minimum 5 years prior relevant experience, or An Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 3 years prior relevant experience.
• Ability to obtain INTERIM U.S. government issued security clearance is required prior to start date.
• Must have Linux or Windows experience.
• Experience with Server architectures and troubleshooting methods.
• Experience in one of the following: Active Directory, VMware, MySQL, networking administration experience.
• Experience with secure system configurations, system hardening, and tailoring Linux environments.

Responsibilities

• Provide System Administration in a heterogeneous Redhat 8 & 9 Enterprise Linux environment.
• Utilize virtualization and containerization technologies, including VMware vCenter, vSphere, Horizon, ESXi, KVM, Podman, Docker, and Kubernetes/OpenShift.
• Collaborate with engineers, software developers, systems administrators, storage, networking, and HPC teams to resolve infrastructure and integration challenges.
• Partner with cybersecurity teams to ensure compliance with DFARS, RMF, and NIST Cybersecurity Framework.
• Provide on-site support for mission systems in a closed DoD area, with occasional after-hours work and up to 10% travel.
• Obtain and maintain DoD 8140 / 8570 certification (e.g., CompTIA Security+) within six months of hire.
• Demonstrates flexibility to support business needs, including shift changes.

Principal System Administrators, internally known as Principal Analyst, infrastructure Workplace Services, collaborate with a diverse team to support exciting, critical programs with classified information system capabilities. Success in this role means you are able to develop, implement and maintain secure, cost-efficient environments across various classified programs. Program teams rely on your collaboration and guidance to define computing requirements and create end-to-end solutions to solve complex IT infrastructure problems.

What You Will Do:

• You will provide System Administration in a heterogeneous Redhat 8 & 9 Enterprise Linux environment.
• You will utilize virtualization and containerization technologies, including VMware vCenter, vSphere, Horizon, ESXi, KVM, Podman, Docker, and Kubernetes/OpenShift.
• Collaborate with engineers, software developers, systems administrators, storage, networking, and high-performance computing teams to resolve complex infrastructure and integration challenges.
• Partner with cybersecurity teams to ensure continuous compliance with regulatory and security frameworks such as DFARS, RMF, and the NIST Cybersecurity Framework.
• Provide critical, on-site support for mission systems in a closed DoD area, responding to both planned and emergent tasks, with occasional work outside standard hours and up to 10% travel as required.
• Obtain and maintain DoD 8140 / 8570 certification (e.g., CompTIA Security+ or equivalent) within six months of hire.
• Demonstrates flexibility and adaptability to support business needs, including adjusting to shift changes

Qualifications We Prefer:

• Strong leadership, teamwork, communication (written and oral), collaboration, and organizational skills.
• Deep experience with Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) and its ecosystem, including authentication and identity services (SSSD, LDAP, Kerberos, NIS) and file sharing/integration services (Samba, NFS).
• Expertise with automation and configuration management tools such as Ansible and Red Hat Satellite, along with strong scripting skills in Bash, Python, Perl, or C to support provisioning, patching, and lifecycle management.
• Familiarity with enterprise storage systems (e.g., NetApp) and virtual desktop infrastructure (VDI) technologies such as Horizon, Profile Unity, and NVIDIA GPU virtualization (NLS, DLS).
• Proficiency with monitoring, vulnerability scanning, and compliance assessment tools (ACAS, Splunk, Nessus, SCAP, STIG, Nagios, SolarWinds) and working knowledge of security frameworks (CMMC, NISPOM, JAFAN, JSIG, DFARS, DoD RMF).

The salary range for this role is 86,800 USD - 165,200 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate’s work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.
