Job summary

Supermicro is seeking an experienced Principal Software Engineer - Switch Design to work on web-based applications for business process automation. This is a key role that will expand your knowledge in programming and firmware development for switch platforms.

The position requires 15+ years in networking switch development, strong C/C++ and Python skills, Linux experience, and deep knowledge of EVPN VXLAN, BGP/OSPF, and switch hardware like Broadcom XGS. Excellent teamwork is essential.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering or related discipline is preferred; Master’s degree is a plus
• A minimum of 15 years of experience in networking switch products development or other similar technical position
• Experience with Linux or other networking operating systems
• Programming experience with C/C++ and Python
• Strong grounding in data structures and algorithms
• In-depth understanding of packet forwarding, OS internals, algorithms, and computer architecture
• Experience with SONiC, ONL and network protocols such as EVPN VXLAN, BGP, OSPF, IGMP, PIM, VLAN
• Hands-on experience with switching chips (Broadcom XGS)
• Excellent communication and teamwork skills in cross-functional teams
• Adaptability, problem-solving and continuous learning in fast-paced software environment

Responsibilities

• Adopt existing firmware code and work on new switch hardware platforms
• Develop and implement low-level software that directly interacts with switch hardware
• Debug and optimize firmware for performance and stability
• Create and maintain documentation for firmware and processes
• Collaborate with hardware engineers and software teams for seamless integration
• Perform code reviews and follow firmware development best practices
• Troubleshoot firmware issues across different switch configurations
• Monitor progress across the feature area
• Work with HW, FW and SW teams to resolve technical issues
• Coordinate with Product Management to define remote management strategy
