Job summary

Super Micro Computer in San Jose, California seeks a Principal Software Engineer - Switch Design to build web-based applications for business process automation and to deepen hardware-software integration.

You will port and develop firmware for switch platforms, debug and optimize firmware, document ported firmware, collaborate with HW and SW teams, and help define product strategy around remote management.

Qualifications

• 15+ years of experience in networking switch products development.
• Experience with Linux or similar networking operating systems.
• Programming experience with C/C++ and Python.
• Strong grounding in data structures and algorithms.
• In-depth understanding of packet forwarding, OS internals, algorithms and architecture.
• Experience with SONiC/ONL is preferred; EVPN VXLAN, BGP, OSPF familiarity is helpful.

Responsibilities

• Adopt existing firmware code and work on switch hardware platforms.
• Develop and implement low-level software interacting with switch hardware.
• Debug and optimize firmware for performance and stability.
• Create and maintain documentation for ported firmware and processes.
• Collaborate with hardware and software teams to ensure integration.
• Perform code reviews and adhere to firmware development best practices.
• Troubleshoot firmware issues across different switch configurations.
• Coordinate across HW, FW, and SW departments to resolve issues.
• Contribute to product strategy around remote management.
