Job summary

Longenecker & Associates (L&A), a Geosyntec Company, seeks a Principal Structural Design Engineer to support Savannah River Nuclear Solutions at the Aiken, SC site. The role entails leading structural design tasks for nuclear facilities, ensuring code compliance and safety standards, and coordinating with SRNS processes.

Candidates should have 10+ years of relevant experience, PE licensure, and strong knowledge of STAAD and national codes. Onsite work with potential for FW options is expected.

Qualifications

• Minimum of ten years of design and analysis experience for nuclear or industrial facilities.
• Working knowledge of STAAD is required.
• Familiarity with IBC, AISC (ASD/LRFD), ACI, AWS, NFPA and OSHA standards.
• Eligible for DOE Q security clearance if required; US citizenship is required.
• U.S. citizenship is required due to federal contract security rules.
• Will comply with essential functions and company policies, with reasonable accommodations.
• Health and safety training, medical monitoring, and background/drug testing are required.
• Marijuana is prohibited under federal law for contractors.

Responsibilities

• Provide design and construction oversight of structural engineering tasks.
• Analyze static and dynamic loads using calculations and software.
• Design concrete, steel, aluminum, stainless steel, timber and composite structures.
• Design foundations and anchorage; assess for impact and overpressure.
• Prepare CSI specifications and review vendor documents.
• Follow SRNS processes; obtain programmatic guidance as needed.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Provide design and construction oversight of structural engineering tasks to SRNS.
• Structural engineering tasks include:
• Analysis of structural systems for both static and dynamic loads using manual computation and computer programs
• Design of concrete structures; design of steel, aluminum, stainless steel, timber and composite structures
• Foundation and anchorage design
• Structural analysis for impact, overpressure, and other accident conditions
• Preparation of CSI specifications; and review of vendor documents
• Engineering services shall be provided using SRNS processes and procedures.
• Programmatic guidance will be provided by SRNS.

Education and Licensure

BS Degree in Civil Engineering or current registration as a Professional Engineer in either Civil or Structural Engineering.

• Candidate must demonstrate a minimum of ten (10) years of experience in design and analysis of nuclear or industrial facilities.
• Candidate must demonstrate working knowledge of STAAD.
• Candidate must demonstrate working knowledge of National Codes and Standards such as IBC, AISC (ASD and LRFD), ACI, AWS, NFPA, and OSHA.
• Due to federal contract security requirements, candidates must be able to successfully pass a federal background investigation to secure and maintain DOE Q security clearance if required.
• Due to federal contract security requirements, this position requires U.S. Citizenship.

Preferred Qualifications and Location Details

• Proficiency in using MicroStation 2D Computer Aided Drafting and Design (CADD) software is preferred.
• Previous experience working at SRS.
• Preferred PE license.
• Duration of the Contract: 1 year, (2) 1 year option periods
• Mon-Thurs 6:45a - 5:15p
• Projects Supported: General Design Engineering business.
• Onsite or Remote? Onsite. Local candidates or willing to relocate at the candidate's expense.
