Job summary

Omega Technical Services is seeking a Principal Structural Design Engineer to lead complex structural projects in Aiken, SC. You will oversee design of concrete, steel, aluminum, timber and composite structures, including foundation and anchorage design for nuclear facilities.

Responsibilities include providing guidance to senior staff, ensuring compliance with IBC/AISC/ACI, and coordinating with DOE/DoD clients. This onsite role requires a strong leadership presence and rigorous quality control.

Qualifications

• U.S. citizen required.
• Pre-employment screening with drug and alcohol test and motor vehicle record check.

• Minimum 10 years of experience in design and analysis of nuclear or industrial facilities.

Give quality guidance and assistance to less senior professionals on related tasks.

• Apply technical experience in field of specialization or broad-based experience in multiple technical fields, to resolve complex problems.
• Incorporate advanced technical practices and a variety of complex features such as complicated technical requirements, application of new or special materials or processes and dicult coordination or oversight requirements into problem solving and program planning.
• Provide leadership in determining solutions to complex problems and be recognized as having expertise in a functional area(s) of technical expertise.
• Provide direction and position responsibility both inside and outside department lines on programs seeking new approaches to problems and new application of existing engineering or scientific principles.
• Evaluate the results of programs and prepares reports and recommendations based on these evaluations.
• Identify and recommend improvements where established technology components and methodology are inadequate for solution.
• Keep informed of the advancement of technology as applied through one's area of technology.
• Prepare plans including schedules, budgets and personnel requirements for solving technical tasks identified by management.
• Develop schedules, monitor progress, monitor expenditures of budget and review quality of work performed.

• Communicate results and objectives verbally and in manuscripts form to customers colleagues and management.

Provide design and construction oversight of structural engineering tasks to SRNS.

Structural engineering tasks include:

• Analysis of structural systems for both static and dynamic loads using manual computation and computer programs.

• Design of concrete structures; design of steel, aluminum, stainless steel, timber and composite structures.

• Foundation and anchorage design.

• Structural analysis for impact, overpressure, and other accident conditions.

• Preparation of CSI specifications; and review of vendor documents.

• Engineering services shall be provided using SRNS processes and procedures. Programmatic guidance will be provided by SRNS.

Education Requirements

• Ph.D. degree in applicable science or engineering discipline and 5+ years' experience.
• A MS with 8+ years' experience.
• A BS with 10+ years' experience or more. BS Degree in Civil Engineering or current registration as a Professional Engineer in either Civil or Structural Engineering.

Qualifications

• Candidate must be a U.S. Citizen.
• Satisfactory results of a pre-employment screening, which includes a drug and breath alcohol test, along with a Motor Vehicle Record check.
• Candidate must be able to obtain and maintain a DOE Security Clearance.
• Candidate must demonstrate a minimum of ten (10) years of experience in design and analysis of nuclear or industrial facilities.
• Candidate must demonstrate working knowledge of STAAD.
• Candidate must demonstrate working knowledge of National Codes and Standards such as IBC, AISC (ASD and LRFD), ACI, AWS, NFPA, and OSHA.
• Candidate must be able to perform weekly field walk downs of the job site for the engineering work being performed. These walk downs may involve construction sites with uneven surfaces and work in progress, walking for distances of over half a mile, climbing ladders to access remote areas, and dressing out in protective clothing.

Preferred Qualifications

• Possession of an active DOE/DoD clearance within the past two (2) years is preferred.
• Previous DOE/NNSA work experience.
• Proficiency in using MicroStation 2D Computer Aided Drafting and Design (CADD) software.
• Previous experience working at SRS.
• PE license preferred.

Work Schedule

A 40 hour work week is scheduled. Client utilizes various work schedules including 5/8s (8 hour/day; five days per week), 4/10's (10 hours/day; four days per week), and 9/80's (9 hours/day, five days on week AA and four days on week BB. Work week excludes Client holidays. Each workday has 30-minute lunch. Overtime will be expected at times to meet deliverables and will be utilized at the discretion of the Manager.
