Longenecker & Associates (L&A), a Geosyntec Company, seeks a Principal Engineer – I&C to support Savannah River Nuclear Solutions in Aiken, SC. The role focuses on design engineering, instrumentation, and control system integration in a nuclear/processing environment.

Candidates should have extensive I&C design experience, PLCs/DCS, MicroStation, and the ability to operate in a DOE-security environment. Onsite work with potential for federal background checks and DOE clearance requirements.

• Design experience with process control instrumentation, PLCs and distributed control systems.
• Proficiency in MicroStation 2D CAD software.

Responsibilities

• Provide design engineering staff augmentation and technical support to SRNS.
• Produce design outputs including P&IDs, control logics, loop diagrams, instrument indices and setpoint lists.
• Ensure engineering services comply with SRNS processes and procedures.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Provide design engineering staff augmentation support to SRNS.
• Primary responsibilities include engineering analysis, walkdowns, design development and generation of design output documents including but not limited to: P&IDs; Control Logics; Loop Diagrams; Instrument Indices; Setpoint Lists; Instrument and Control Valve Specifications; DCS and PLC Design; Instrument Location and Installation Design; Panel Layouts; and Vendor Document Review.
• Engineering services shall be provided using SRNS processes and procedures.
• Programmatic guidance will be provided by SRNS

Education and Licensure

• Ph.D. degree in applicable science or engineering discipline and 5+ years’ experience. OR
• A MS with 8+ years’ experience. OR
• A BS with 10+ years’ experience or more.
• BS Degree in one of the following disciplines: Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Nuclear Engineering, I&C Engineering, or current registration as a Professional Engineer in one of the above disciplines.

• Candidate must demonstrate ten (10) years of direct I&C design experience (within the last 15 years) in the nuclear or process chemical industry.
• Candidate must demonstrate design experience with process control instrumentation, PLCs and distributed control systems.
• Proficiency in using MicroStation 2D Computer Aided Drafting and Design (CADD) software is required.
• Candidate must be able to perform weekly field walk downs of the job site for the engineering work being performed. These walk downs may involve construction sites with uneven surfaces and work in progress, walking for distances of over half a mile, climbing ladders to access remote areas, and dressing out in protective clothing.
• Due to federal contract security requirements, candidates must be able to successfully pass a federal background investigation to secure and maintain DOE Q security clearance if required.

Preferred Qualifications and Location Details

• Candidates who have possessed an active DOE clearance (L or Q) within the past two (2) years are preferred.
• Duration of the Contract: (1) year with the option to extend for (2) additional (1) year option years.
• Anticipated Work Schedule: Mon- Thurs 6:45am-5:15pm EST
• Projects Supported: Supported Area will be determined as needed.
• Onsite or Remote? 100% onsite. Local candidates or willing to relocate at the candidate's expense.
