Job summary

RTX, a leading aerospace and defense company, seeks a Software Engineer II for the BMC2 Capabilities team in St. Petersburg, FL. This onsite role covers embedded and application software across real-time and simulated environments, with agile/Scrum practices.

You will design, implement, and test software, and contribute to CI/CD pipelines using Jenkins, GitLab CI, or GitHub Actions while collaborating with cross-functional teams to deliver robust solutions.

Qualifications

• Degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) with 8+ years of experience or an advanced degree with 5+ years of experience.
• Experience with C++, Python and object-oriented software design.
• Hands-on experience developing automated tests for embedded or software systems (unit/integration/system).
• Knowledge of data structures, algorithms, OS concepts, and software development life cycle processes.
• Active and transferable DoD Secret security clearance required prior to day 1; US citizenship required.

The BMC2 Capabilities engineering organization is seeking a Software Engineer II to join our software development team located onsite in St. Petersburg, FL.

Our teams develop software in a variety of languages, primarily C++. Candidates can expect to work on many-if not all-of the phases of the software development life cycle.

In this position, you will be responsible for providing practical solutions to difficult technical software problems. Software Engineering positions include working on a variety of different tasks including real time software development, application software development, test and verification, data analysis, software tools development, and many others. Teams are organized using Agile scrum methodology.

What You Will Do

• Participate in the requirements, design, development and testing of embedded software, including application, middleware, operating system and supporting tools, to include development of new work products or enhancement of existing applications and systems.
• Design, code, test, integrate, and document software solutions.
• Participate in internal review of software components and systems.
• Develop and maintain automated testing frameworks to validate software functionality, performance, and security across embedded targets and simulated environments.
• Design, build, and maintain complex CI/CD pipelines using tools like Jenkins, GitLab CI or GitHub Actions.
• Operate in a collaborative, SAFe agile environment.

Qualifications You Must Have

• Knowledge of data structures and algorithms, systems software design, operating systems, architectures, software development life cycle and processes.
• Experience with C++, Python and Object-oriented software design.
• Hands-on experience developing automated tests for embedded or software systems, such as unit, integration, or system-level testing.
• Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and minimum 8 years prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 5 years of experience
• Active and transferable DoD Secret security clearance required prior to day 1. U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance.

Qualifications We Prefer

• Experience developing software in a team-based development environment, preferably Agile/SCRUM, DevSecOps and test automation.
• Hands-on experience with containerization and orchestration (e.g. Docker, Kubernetes).
• Experience with Conan package manager for C++.
• Experience working with large, complex software systems and refactoring legacy code.
• Experience writing software for and debugging issues in real-time multithreaded software applications.
