Job summary

VT Group (VTG) is seeking a Principal Software Engineer in Hanover, MD, with a strong foundation in modern software engineering and Agile collaboration. You will design, develop, integrate, and maintain secure, high-performance software supporting critical intelligence and defense missions. Hybrid work up to two days remote weekly is available.

The role requires deep technical leadership and the ability to guide multiple teams across software, systems, and hardware interfaces.

Qualifications

• Twenty years of experience as a software developer.
• Experience designing, developing, maintaining, and troubleshooting complex software applications.
• Experience translating requirements into software design and performance criteria.
• Experience with software integration, testing, debugging, and defect resolution.
• Experience developing or implementing algorithms to meet performance needs.
• Experience working with databases and data repositories.
• Experience documenting technical and software design.

Responsibilities

• Analyze requirements to derive design, functional, and performance criteria.
• Design and develop new software applications based on documented requirements.
• Modify and enhance software to add features and functionality.
• Debug software, identify root causes, and fix defects.
• Develop algorithms to meet performance standards within constraints.
• Review and test components to ensure design compliance.
• Write and maintain software and system documentation.
• Lead software development activities and coordinate teams when required.
