Job summary

Akamai is seeking a Principal Software Engineer Lead to drive the cloud-native Kubernetes platform inside the Compute group. You will guide architecture, mentoring, and delivery across multiple engineering teams in an Agile environment.

You will shape the roadmap, ensure scalable, secure, and high-availability services, and partner with business stakeholders to bring new cloud products to market efficiently.

Qualifications

• 12 years of relevant experience and a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or equivalent.
• Leadership experience in Cloud Native Platform Engineering.
• Experience building and operating highly available, fault-tolerant, and scalable production services using Kubernetes and cloud-native technologies.
• Expert knowledge of the Go programming language and scripting with Python or Bash.
• Expertise in networking fundamentals (TCP/IP, DNS, TLS, HTTP) and Linux-based operating systems.
• Experience leveraging CI/CD tools to promote good software development practices.

As a Principal Software Engineer Lead, you will be responsible for:

• Leading the development of the cloud native platform built on Kubernetes and other cloud-native technologies
• Contributing to and helping shape the engineering roadmap by working with management and business stakeholders
• Contributing to enterprise features expected from a cloud native platform
• Developing best practices, knowledge sharing, and mentoring
• Leading and collaborating with engineering teams in an Agile environment
• Fostering an environment that encourages innovative solutions, rapid development cycles, and open communication

Do what you love

To be successful in this role you will:

• Have 12 years of relevant experience and a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or its equivalent.
• Possess leadership experience in Cloud Native Platform Engineering, driving toward an enabled ecosystem of capabilities within our organization.
• Have experience building and operating highly available, fault-tolerant, and scalable production services using Kubernetes and cloud-native technologies.
• Demonstrate expert knowledge of the Go programming language and be comfortable leveraging Python or Bash for scripting needs.
• Express expertise in networking fundamentals (TCP/IP, DNS, TLS, HTTP) and knowledge of Linux-based operating systems.
• Have expertise leveraging CI/CD tools to achieve good software development practices.

Compensation

Akamai is committed to fair and equitable compensation practices. For US based candidates only - the base salary for this position ranges from $169,300 - $304,700/year; a candidate’s salary is determined by various factors including, but not limited to, relevant work experience, skills, certifications and location. Compensation for candidates outside the US will vary. The compensation package may also include incentive compensation opportunities in the form of annual bonus or incentives, equity awards and an Employee Stock Purchase Plan (ESPP).
