Job summary
Northern Trust is seeking a Principal Software Engineer to provide technical leadership and hands-on execution across cloud-native initiatives. You will design and review production-grade software using Java, follow clean code and TDD, and champion AI-assisted development to improve productivity and code quality.
You will collaborate with architects, product, and global teams to build scalable, secure systems on Microsoft Azure, automate DevOps pipelines, and continuously raise engineering
Qualifications
- 10+ years of professional software engineering experience.
- Deep expertise in Java and modern application frameworks.
- Extensive experience with Azure cloud services and cloud-native development.
- Strong knowledge of TDD, contract-first development, and CI/CD.
- Experience with cloud databases and performance tuning.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and review high-quality software.
- Lead with Java and implement clean code and tests.
- Drive AI-assisted development and productivity improvements.
- Influence architecture for scalability, security, and performance.
- Mentor engineers and enforce engineering standards.
