OpenAI’s ChatGPT Learning team seeks a Principal Software Engineer to set technical direction and lead the design and development of learning experiences in ChatGPT. You’ll stay hands-on across the stack, partner with PMs, designers, researchers, and platform teams, and drive architecture decisions for scalable, multimodal features.

Based in San Francisco or New York City with three days in the office weekly and relocation support for new hires.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of software engineering experience and a track record of shipping high-quality products across the full stack.
• Experience leading complex technical initiatives and balancing product needs with maintainability.
• Experience partnering with product managers and designers on decisions driving the product and learning experiences.

Responsabilités

• Lead end-to-end development of learning experiences in ChatGPT from exploration to production.
• Set technical direction and guide architecture for rapid experimentation and long-term reliability.
• Build multimodal learning capabilities combining text, images, voice, and interactive interfaces.
• Develop scalable services and APIs to support learning features across ChatGPT.
• Collaborate with researchers, platform teams, designers, and engineers to prototype ideas and bring AI capabilities to users.
• Mentor engineers, conduct code reviews, and provide clear technical guidance.
