Job summary

C.H. Robinson Worldwide is seeking a Principal Software Engineer for its Documents and Customs services, part of the Global Forwarding division. You will partner with Product Managers, UX, Data Science, and other engineering teams to architect reliable, scalable systems and embed AI into software processes.

Lead technical direction, mentor teams, and drive architectural excellence across the organization while ensuring production-grade reliability and performance in enterprise environments.

Qualifications

• 10+ years designing and implementing large-scale distributed software systems.
• 10+ years with modern development languages (e.g., .NET Core, C#).
• Relational (MS SQL, Oracle) and non-relational databases (MongoDB, Elastic, CosmosDB).
• Deep understanding of microservices, CQRS, event-driven design.
• Experience with data streaming (Kafka, ESB, Apache Flink).
• AI/ML-driven engineering practices and AI-assisted development tools.
• Automation and testing strategies; strong code quality focus.
• Version control and CI/CD with modern tooling.

Responsibilities

• Define and implement architecture patterns for full-stack applications.
• Build reusable UI components, optimize API performance, and design scalable backend services.
• Identify opportunities to integrate AI and automation in development workflows.
• Collaborate with Product, UX, Data Science, and Engineering to align technical direction with business goals.
• Foster innovation with data-driven experiments and rapid feature iteration.
• Communicate trade-offs and architectural vision to diverse stakeholders.
• Create technical documentation, diagrams, and design guidelines.
• Mentor engineering teams and ensure best practices in development, testing, and deployment.
• Ensure high availability, troubleshoot incidents, and drive permanent fixes via root-cause analysis.
• Build cross-team partnerships and drive technical excellence across the organization.
• Evaluate new tools and techniques to enhance productivity and system efficiency.
