Job summary

Uber’s Security Engineering team is seeking a Principal Engineer to lead the identity-first Zero Trust foundation. You will own workload identity, service-to-service authentication, authorization, and cryptographic trust for thousands of services and tens of thousands of users and partners.

You will drive multi-year architecture, mentor engineers, and ensure secure, scalable systems that support AI agent identities and enterprise-wide adoption across Uber’s platforms.

Qualifications

• BS Degree in Computer Science or related field.
• 10+ years of software engineering experience with cybersecurity focus.
• Proven track record as a technical leader driving design and architecture across teams.
• Expert knowledge in identity and access management, zero trust, secure systems design, cryptography, authorization, or agentic security.
• Hands-on experience with highly available Tier-1 distributed systems in production.
• Strong coding skills in Go, Python, Java, C++, or Rust.
• Experience building scalable, secure infrastructure at large scale.

Responsibilities

• Define and deliver the multi-year architecture and strategy for Uber's identity-first Zero Trust stack.
• Stay hands-on in building and reviewing secure systems architecture.
• Set technical standards and elevate engineering performance across teams.
• Own availability and incident response for critical security services.
• Extend identity and authorization to AI agents and agent-to-agent traffic.
• Lead migrations away from legacy trust primitives toward short-lived identity.
• Ensure identity foundation supports new business lines and cross-functional needs.
• Collaborate with infrastructure, AI platform, product engineering, and business teams.
