Job summary

Novartis Group of Companies in Cambridge, MA seeks a Principal Scientist I to lead tissue-based assay development within the Molecular Histology Laboratory. You will drive IHC, ISH, and multiplex biomarker assays, working closely with pathologists and multidisciplinary teams to deliver robust data for preclinical safety and translational research.

The role requires deep expertise in molecular localization technologies, digital pathology, and strong leadership to guide assay development,

Qualifications

8+ years directly relevant laboratory experience.
Extensive hands-on experience with molecular localization techniques.
Strong experience with automated staining platforms (Ventana ULTRA, Leica BOND).

Responsibilities

Develop, optimize, validate, and implement tissue-based assays (IHC, multiplex IHC/IF, ISH/RNAscope).
Evaluate antibodies, probes, controls, and assay strategies for robust data.
Operate and optimize automated staining platforms and automated workflows for IHC/ISH.
Troubleshoot technical challenges and establish best practices for assay performance.
Maintain standardized protocols, acceptance criteria, and QC metrics.
Utilize digital pathology workflows, including whole-slide imaging and data management (LIMS/eLN).
Prepare study summaries, technical reports, and presentations for project teams.
Contribute to continuous improvement and adoption of emerging technologies.
Ensure compliance with safety, quality, and data integrity standards.
