Job summary

AV is seeking a Principal Software Engineer to lead software development for control of advanced robotic platforms. You will own architectural decisions, drive cross‑platform integration, and mentor teams while delivering high‑quality code for vision-based navigation and autonomy.

You will work hands-on with C++/Kotlin, contribute to the Kinesis ecosystem, and collaborate with customers to validate features in field testing. A DoD clearance may be required for certain programs.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in a relevant field with 12+ years of experience.
• Strong fluency in modern C++, maintainable software architecture, and modular system design.
• Hands-on knowledge of CMake or similar build systems.
• Experience developing software for mechatronic or hardware-integrated systems.
• Knowledge of computer networking topologies, protocols, and principles.
• Familiarity with safety critical software concepts such as determinism and real-time systems.
• Self-directed engineer who takes ownership and brings structure to complex systems.
• Ability to engage with technical and non-technical customers.
• Ability to leverage AI tooling to improve engineering productivity and code quality.
• Experience mentoring small engineering teams.
• Ability to obtain a US DoD Secret clearance if required.
• Willingness to travel locally (Occasionally).

Responsibilities

• Develop software supporting AV's vision-based navigation, autonomy, and mission systems roadmap.
• Drive technical direction and architecture across the Kinesis ecosystem.
• Design and integrate C++ and Kotlin software across platforms.
• Create cross‑platform apps for Android, Linux, and Windows to control robots.
• Design SDK interfaces for internal and external integrations.
• Serve as technical lead for customer programs.
• Perform hands-on field testing with robots to validate features.
• Deliver work on time per project schedules and budgets.
• Derive algorithms from detailed software requirements.
• Collaborate with multiple software teams reusing existing components.
• Mentor junior engineers and provide guidance.
• Tackle significant, unique issues requiring evaluation of intangibles.
• Operate independently to determine methods and procedures.
• Occasionally travel for customer or testing events.
• Other duties as assigned.
