Job summary

Agility Robotics is seeking a Principal Robotics Functional Safety Engineer to lead safety strategy across complex robotic systems from architecture through deployment. You will partner with cross-functional teams to embed safety in every phase of development, and may own a safety domain or support customer deployments.

Top responsibilities include leading safety decisions, coordinating V&V activities, and aligning with ISO/IEC safety standards to deliver safe, compliant robotic platforms.

Qualifications

• BS in Robotics, Mechatronics, Electrical Engineering, or related field (or equivalent).
• 12+ years in robotics or safety-critical engineering, including 7+ years in functional safety.
• Proven expertise in traditional risk reduction methods and hierarchy of controls.
• Familiarity with ISO 13849, IEC 61508, ANSI/RIA R15.08, and ISO 10218 series.
• Experience managing third-party vendors or labs for V&V activities.

Responsibilities

• Lead functional safety from concept through deployment, ensuring compliance with machinery directive and mobile robot standards.
• Drive architecture-level safety decisions, balancing performance, risk, and compliance.
• Create and maintain safety deliverables: risk assessments, SRS, FMEDA, SISTEMA analyses, safety cases.
• Collaborate to define, communicate, and validate safety requirements for hardware, software, and controls.
• Support customer deployments through remote collaboration and on-site visits.
