Job summary

FieldAI is seeking a Lead Functional Safety Engineer to own systems-level design, integration, and validation for our wheeled robotic platforms. You will architect supervised safety systems, configure PLCs, and ensure safe handoffs between the safety hardware, operators, and autonomy stack.

The role demands hands-on leadership, a strong safety mindset, and the ability to scale safety testing for future platforms.

Qualifications

BS or MS in Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, Computer Engineering or related field with significant experience.
Hands-on expertise configuring, programming, and debugging Safety PLCs.
Proven experience selecting and integrating hardware safety components such as remote E-Stops, safety relays, and safety lidars.

Responsibilities

Design and deploy a supervised safety system with remote E-Stops and indicator lights.
Lead the transition to a non-line-of-sight autonomous safety architecture and define safe operation handoffs.
Configure Safety PLCs, safety lids, and related hardware; guide wiring diagrams and harness designs.
Write, test, and validate ladder logic and safety configurations on PLCs.
Collaborate with software to ensure safe interfaces between hardware safety loops and autonomy stack.
