Job summary

Boston Engineering seeks a Principal Robotics Engineer - R&D to join our Waltham, MA team. You will provide hands-on technical leadership for robotic inspection systems, translating customer needs into integrated, verifiable architectures from prototype to production.

Collaborate across mechanical, electrical, software, and controls teams, mentor engineers, and guide architecture decisions, verification, and field troubleshooting in a fast-paced, mission-focused environment.

Qualifications

• 10+ years in engineering, with 5+ years robotics.
• Delivery/integration of mobile robots; hands-on troubleshooting.
• Breadth to trade off hardware, software, controls and sensing.
• Experience owning systems engineering: requirements, architecture, verification.
• Contributed to transitioning prototypes to production.
• CAD/assembly: SolidWorks preferred; interpret drawings.
• Lead multidisciplinary teams; communicate risk and interfaces.
• BS in Mechanical/Electrical/Robotics/Mechatronics/CE or equivalent.

Responsibilities

• Own systems engineering and the integrated technical plan for SMP and mROV efforts.
• Work hands-on in development, resolving tough problems and leading root-cause investigations.
• Lead hardware, software and controls integration across embedded computing and sensing.
• Establish architecture baselines and maintain interface compatibility.
• Lead reviews, milestones, verification, failures and regression testing.
• Support production readiness with manufacturing and supply-chain teams.
• Mentor engineers and contribute to proposals, demos, and field prep.
• Inform performance targets and technology roadmaps.
