Job summary

Boston Engineering, based in Waltham, MA, seeks a Principal Mechanical Engineer to lead mechanical and electro-mechanical product development from concept through manufacturing. You will guide motion systems, robotics, and high-performance systems while mentoring teams and shaping client solutions.

The role emphasizes technical direction, cross-functional collaboration, and impactful design decisions that balance performance, cost, and schedule.

Qualifications

• A Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering.
• 10+ years of progressively responsible engineering work.
• Proven success bringing products from concept through prototyping, verification, and manufacturing.
• Deep expertise in precision electromechanical design, motion systems, robotics, or mechanisms.
• Experience setting technical direction and leading multidisciplinary engineering teams.
• Strong system-level thinking to define interfaces among mechanical, electrical, and software elements.
• Proficiency with Creo and SolidWorks.

Responsibilities

• Lead technical direction and product development for complex, multidisciplinary projects, owning major technical areas and results.
• Design, build, and test proof-of-concept models, breadboards, prototypes, and production-ready systems.
• Lead cross-functional engineering teams, align disciplines, and manage risks and dependencies.
• Partner with clients and managers to define scope, estimate effort, plan technical work, and drive proposals and risk assessments.
