Job summary

Base-2 Solutions is seeking a Principal Software Engineer to design, build, and maintain scalable Python microservices interfacing with Kafka and Elasticsearch. You will deploy and monitor services in Kubernetes and collaborate across teams to deliver reliable, observable systems.

The role is primarily on-site in Bethesda, MD with occasional remote work per client needs. You will work on RESTful microservices, ETL pipelines, CI/CD, and security-focused, scalable architectures within a Linux

Qualifications

• Proficiency in Python and backend frameworks (FastAPI, Flask).
• Experience with Docker and ETL processes.
• Linux/bash scripting experience.
• Strong understanding of RESTful APIs and microservices.
• Kubernetes deployment, monitoring, and debugging.
• Familiarity with Git and collaborative workflows (PRs, reviews).
• CI/CD tooling (GitLab/Jenkins) and DevOps practices.
• Excellent written and verbal communication; Agile experience.
• Ability to work independently and in a team.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, test, and maintain Python microservices.
• Implement Kafka consumers and producers for data streaming.
• Integrate with Elasticsearch for indexing and querying.
• Write unit/integration tests with high coverage.
• Build CI/CD pipelines and deploy in Kubernetes clusters.
• Participate in design reviews and architecture planning.
• Monitor and troubleshoot production using observability tools.
• Document technical solutions and share knowledge within the team.
• Apply engineering practices suitable for development, integration, and production.
