Job summary

Code Metal, Inc. seeks a Principal engineer to help build Python services, pipelines, and tooling for our wargaming simulation platform. You will design backend services and APIs interfacing with frontend and analysis tools, and scale simulations across cloud and on‑premises infrastructure.

You will collaborate with government stakeholders, model developers, and analysts to deliver decision-ready insights while upholding rigorous SDLC practices and architecture standards.

Qualifications

• Professional, enterprise-level Python software development experience.
• Experience gathering requirements and translating to software designs.
• Strong SDLC practices: code review, CI, release management.
• Experience building scalable APIs (REST, GraphQL, gRPC).
• Eligible for US Top Secret security clearance.

Responsibilities

• Design and implement backend services and APIs for mission- and campaign-level simulations.
• Build scenario-generation, operational and mission planning workflows, and Monte-Carlo based sensitivity-analysis.
• Develop distributed, cloud-scale infrastructure for simulations across devices and clouds.
• Create data ingestion, normalization, and analysis pipelines for defense users.
• Build scalable APIs (REST, GraphQL, gRPC) and containerized services connecting Python tooling to runtime.
• Gather requirements from government stakeholders and distill into software designs.
• Apply SDLC practices including code reviews, testing, CI, release management.
