Our Chicago office is looking to add a Principal Project Manager to join our team. In this position, you will be responsible for the planning, execution and overall management of major transportation projects and/or programs. You should expect to work on projects located throughout the Eastern and Midwest portions of the US with a focus on the Chicago market. Familiarity with local transportation clients is desirable, e.g., IDOT, ISTHA (tollway), CDOT (Chicago DOT), CTA, Metra, Cook and Dupage Counties. We're looking for someone who can function as role models and ambassadors for Mott MacDonald, representing the brand, vision, and articulating our value proposition internally and externally. You will work closely with cross-functional teams, including engineers, designers, architects, and stakeholders, to meet project objectives and exceed client expectations.

Responsibilities:

1. Lead multi-disciplined teams and provide direction and oversight to accomplish project goals
2. Execute large programs in accordance with the governance codes, requirements and standards of our clients
3. Develop comprehensive project plans, including scope, goals, deliverables, timelines, and budget allocation, in collaboration with relevant stakeholders
4. Identify project resource requirements and allocate them effectively, considering skills, availability and budget constraints
5. Identify potential project risks and develop strategies to mitigate them. Monitor risks throughout the project lifecycle and take proactive measures to minimize their impact
6. Lead project execution activities, coordinating with internal teams and external stakeholders to ensure smooth workflow, adherence to project plans, and timely delivery of project milestones
7. Implement quality control measures to ensure that project deliverables meet or exceed client expectations and conform to industry standards
8. Monitor project finances, track expenses, and ensure adherence to budgetary constraints. Provide regular financial reports to stakeholders
9. Foster effective communication among team members and stakeholders. Prepare and deliver progress reports, project updates, and presentations to internal and external stakeholders
10. Evaluate and manage project changes, including scope variations, timeline adjustments, and resource reallocations. Assess the impact of changes on project objectives and communicate effectively with all parties involved
11. Provide guidance, mentorship, and support to project team members, fostering a collaborative and high-performance work environment. Ensure team members understand their roles, responsibilities, and project goals
12. Conduct project evaluations upon completion, capturing lessons learned, identifying areas for improvement, and implementing best practices for future projects
13. Identify new business opportunities with existing clients and pursue and win opportunities with new clients. In each case, take a leadership role in the pursuit process
14. Maintain client relationships during and after each project is finished to increase our opportunities for future work
15. Perform non-routine and complex assignments in support of corporate commercial and management goals

Qualifications:

1. Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or a related field. A master's degree is beneficial.
2. Minimum of 20 years of experience in project management, specifically in the engineering or construction industry. Demonstrated experience in successfully delivering complex engineering projects is required.
3. Proven leadership and team management skills, with the ability to inspire and motivate cross-functional teams. Experience in resolving conflicts and overcoming challenges
4. Professional Engineer (PE) license in the state of Illinois
5. Demonstrated ability in building and maintaining client relationships in the Metropolitan Chicago Market
6. Strong knowledge of project management methodologies, tools, and techniques. Ability to develop and manage project plans, schedules, and budgets effectively
7. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify and address project-related challenges proactively
8. Ability to thrive in a fast-paced and dynamic work environment. Willingness to adapt to changing priorities and manage multiple projects simultaneously
9. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey complex technical information to both technical and non-technical stakeholders
